My Ideas

Snow, cold, and trucks

Well, today has been a fun one. I haven’t left the house in a few days. I went to town, in the truck, and got to pull some one out of the ditch on my way home. It’s been crazy cold here, the warmest I have seen all day is negative 1 degree out. On my way home there was a guy from another state in a rental, he slid off the road into the deep snow.

I stopped to help, I didn’t have a tow rope or chain in this truck, but I stayed until others stopped, one guy had a chain but didn’t think his truck would pull this truck out. So, between the two of us we got the guy buried in the snow out. The guy that was stuck was on the phone with AAA, but where we live it could have been a few hours before they got here. It’s way too cold to leave someone out like that. He was buried to the tow hooks on the front of the truck in the snow. Digging out wasn’t a good option, also for how steep the bank is, would have taken a lot of digging to get it to where the truck could get out.

Normally, I don’t get to take the truck to town, but it was the vehicle that was warmed up, and my boyfriend was at home with the baby, who is now 2 years old. I know nothing to crazy, but it felt good to be able to help someone, and to get out of the house. This guy was here visiting family, and I don’t think has had much experience driving in the snow, or that in small, rural areas people stop to help one another, really good on days like today. We also had another stop to see if they could help. Of all 5 vehicles I saw in this whole 30-minute adventure, all but one stopped to see what they could do to help. It is great to live in an area like that.
